Hi Folks!

This is an important message for anyone interested in our classes

at the Barley Sheaf in Bodmin on Tuesday evenings.

We're taking a short break through August so there'll be NO

classes until the first Tuesday in September (September 7th).

And from that date we'll be introducing a completely new class

programme:

7.00-7.30 - Absolute Beginners - £2.50

This class will cover the real basics... footwork, basic

partnerwork and within a three week cycle, the basics of turns and

cross body leads

7.30-8.00 - Technique - £2.50

We'll be focusing on the core technique for a range of turn

elements. We won't be expanding on these in the class (as we've

been doing recently) - this class will cover the essentials only

- each week a different element from left and right turns and

crossbody leads to crucifix moves, changing places/breakback

moves, round the world and shines

8.00-8.30 - Salsachunk - £2.50

Something new! We know you like the music to keep playing as much

as possible so this class will head in that direction. We'll teach

short pattern - usually building up from what we've covered in that

evenings Technique class. We'll keep our input to an absolute

minimum, then the music will play and play whilst we work with

couples on a more individual basis. There will still be partner

changes etc but the idea is to keep you dancing and practicing for

at least 20 minutes of the class

8.30-9.30 - ImproverPlus - £5.00

Here's our Improver class in pretty much it's current format -

original and innovative turn patterns structured with the

Improver-level dancer in mind but introducing more demanding

Intermediate level elements. The class will enable you to work at

the level you're comfortable with

The new format means we will finish earlier than before - and that

means we've got more time to play music for you to freestyle to.

So... 9.30 until 10.30 - Freestyling £Free

(We'll go home earlier if you don't feel like dancing but the

offers there!)

As usual - no partner required - regular partner changes in all

classes.

Please buy drinks in the bar - the pub gives us a great rate so

it's nice for them to make a little money!

Can't wait till September? Our classes at the Edgemoor Hotel in

Bovey Tracey will continue through the summer - come and join us

for a demanding bit of class work and freestyling on just about

the best dancefloor in the county! (7.30-8.00 Absolute beginners,

8.00-9.00 Technique. 9.00-10.00 Improvers). And from September 8th

we'll be introducing the new class format (see above) at the

Edgemoor as well.

So... dancing at the Edge, dancing at the Sheaf - you're always

General class notes:	If you've never been to a salsa class then you're probably feeling a bit uncertain at this stage! Don't be! We've been introducing people to salsa for years now and we do it gently! The atmosphere in the class is always positive and fun... we explain everything very clearly and we make sure that everyone is comfortable all the way through the session. Most people are able to learn the basics very quickly - after that the nerves go and you really start to enjoy yourself. If you need more time to get your head around the footwork that's fine - our absolute Beginners class does what it says on the box! We repeat the same basic stuff every week so you can take as long as you like. We also pace the class so you'll never feel left behind - and you won't feel the focus of attention - everyone is there to learn from scratch so if you feel out of your comfort zone remember everyone else is in the same place as you! If you're nervous about attending that first class we find it can help if you have had a chance to practice the basic footwork before you turn up... you can start now! All you have to do is login to view a couple of our videos which explain the basic footwork so you can practice a bit rather than diving in cold. Teacher:	Ian and Julie - we've been teaching salsa together for over 5 years now - we're both immersed in dance - most evenings we're either teaching salsa, attending salsa dancenights, or attending tango workshops and milongas. Our teaching style is reasonably informal but we pay a lot of attention to good technique (even if that means we may simplify a turn pattern to make sure people are dancing the basics right). We provide a really sound mix of information for both leaders and followers - there are too few teaching partnerships in the Region able to offer this level of teaching input for both partners in the dance. We don't teach Intermediate classes because there's so much that can be covered at Improver lever - but you will find that our Improver class varies in difficulty from week to week and every so often we'll drop an Intermediate level element into the Improver pattern - so don't assume that our classes will be undemanding! We also manage the content of our classes so if you are less experienced you won't feel out of your depth - we are pretty good at helping people to work to a specific level in class and we don't push you to cover the whole pattern unless you are comfortable with it. We are also not pattern-driven - we believe it is much more important to get the basics right - and that means we focus on good technique, effective communication between partners, smoothness in the dance and an awareness of the space you occupy on the dancefloor and the flow of one well-executed move into another. Salsa is a showy dance - so our teaching is geared towards ensuring that you and your dance partner are able to really enjoy the dance as well as being able to put on a good show for anyone who happens to be watching! Please note that during our classes we call for regular partner changes - these are important to ensure that your dancing develops properly (and it's a sociable approach to the evening).
